To develop this training module we engaged with journalists, communicators, violence prevention organizations, and men’s health groups in considering how to create gender transformative messages that promote understanding of the drivers of violence against women and girls (VAWG) and inspire widespread action on primary prevention.
The training module is designed to support prevention practitioners, community workers, communications specialists and program designers in creating their own gender transformative messaging to fit their various contexts and spheres of influence.
Throughout the training, learners will explore:
- The drivers of VAWG and what gender transformative approaches are
- Key steps for creating gender transformative messages
- What works well and what to avoid in gender transformative prevention messaging
Creating effective messages is important in many prevention activities, including in communication and social marketing campaigns and curriculum-based strategies. It is important that prevention messages are gender-transformative to promote effective change on the drivers of VAWG and improve gender equality.
At the end of this training, learners will have gained foundational knowledge and practical strategies to inform action on gender transformative primary prevention of VAWG in a way that is tailored to their context and audiences of interest.
